INTERTWINE | TIMBER IN THE CITY

Intertwine celebrates and facilitates healthy biophilic living in the largest and most diverse borough in New York, the Queens. This site strives to be a hub for the growing community and a model of sustainable building with the use of multiple wood technologies. The mass timber structure consists of Cross Laminated Timber (CTL) and Dowel Laminated Timber (DLT) in a modular pod assembly. This allows ease with construction through wood panel and facade fabrication which will reduce building time and onsite waste. A ramp on the northwest corner connects the community via the riverfront park to the second-floor rooftop where rows of community gardens grow to support the local economy and provide healthy options for the surrounding neighborhoods. In order to facilitate external transportation, a road is added stretching from Vernon Boulevard to the riverfront park, which enables others to come and enjoy this public space.
